Who We Are (And What We're Building)

HFBAC (Hiring For and Building Awesome Companies) helps bootstrapped founders, entrepreneurs and business owners build founding teams that actually work.

After 20+ years building teams, from BBC Sports to helping 400+ founders, entrepreneurs and business owners through British Library and Virgin StartUp workshops, I (Helen) noticed a pattern:

Startups don’t fail because founders, entrepreneurs and business owners can’t find talented people. 

They fail because they hire the wrong people.

Impressive CVs. Terrible chemistry.

So I built the Chemistry First Framework, a systematic way to hire for fit, not just credentials.

Chemistry First (Always)

We practice what we preach. Skills matter, but chemistry matters more. We’d rather work with someone who’s 80% skilled and 100% aligned than the other way around. If we don’t have great chemistry during the hiring process, we won’t force it.

Scrappy Over Perfect

We ship fast, learn faster, and iterate constantly. Perfect is the enemy of done. If you need everything to be polished before taking action, this isn’t your place. We build the plane while flying it.

Founders First

Everything we do serves bootstrapped founders. If it doesn’t help a founder hire better, build faster, or stress less – we don’t do it. Our clients aren’t “leads” or “accounts.” They’re real people building real companies with limited resources.

Honest Always

We tell founders the truth, even when it’s uncomfortable. We don’t sugarcoat or oversell. This applies to how we work together too – we give direct, honest feedback and expect the same in return.

We Figure It Out

Open Roles (Remote, Part-Time Initially)

We’re hiring for 2 remote positions. Both start part-time (15-25 hours/week) with potential to grow to full-time as the business scales.

ROLE 1

Operations & Client Success Coordinator

You’ll handle operations, client support, and systems that keep HFBAC running smoothly. You’ll manage client communications, organise projects, build workflows, and implement automation so Helen can focus on service delivery and growth. As we scale, this role grows with us.
Ideal For: Someone who’s organised, proactive, loves creating systems, and thrives supporting a growing business

ROLE 2

Lead Generation & Outreach Specialist

You’ll expand HFBAC’s reach through personalized video outreach, LinkedIn prospecting, and strategic lead generation. You’ll record daily video messages to founders and companies, and candidates, start meaningful conversations, and book discovery calls. Your mission: connect with the right people who need Chemistry First hiring, as well as candidates where we may have the right career opportunities for them to consider, and put HFBAC in front of them.
Ideal For: Someone who’s comfortable on camera, loves LinkedIn outreach, has sales/lead generation experience, and enjoys connecting with business owners and founders daily.
